Best Credit Card for Buying Gold in the UAE (2026)
What the banks don't print on the brochure — 0% EPP vs cashback, hidden fees and the one question to ask at the counter.
Last updated: July 2026
If you're buying gold or diamond jewellery in the UAE, the "best" credit card isn't the one with the flashiest cashback percentage — it's the one that gets you a genuine 0% instalment plan with the fewest hidden gotchas. Every major UAE bank markets an Easy Payment Plan (EPP) for jewellery, but the terms hide three things that matter more than the headline: what's excluded, what it costs to convert, and what happens if you're late.
The UAE-Specific Card Worth Knowing First
Before the full comparison: the RAKBank Kalyan Jewellers Credit Card is the only UAE card built specifically for gold and jewellery purchases. It earns Goldback — up to 7% on international spending and 4.5% on domestic spending — rather than standard cashback or airline miles. If you shop at Kalyan Jewellers regularly, this is worth comparing against a standard EPP card before you decide.

The Hidden Terms That Actually Cost You Money
1. "Gold" on the EPP menu almost never means bullion or coins
Both HSBC and Emirates NBD explicitly exclude gold bullion, bars and coins from their 0% EPP offers — these plans apply to jewellery only. If you're buying gold as an investment, check our UAE gold investment guide for payment options. Assume your EPP offer doesn't apply to bars or coins until the jeweller confirms it in writing at the till.
2. The processing fee changes your effective interest rate
A "0% interest" plan with a 2% processing fee on a 12-month tenor is not 0% — it's roughly 2% flat. RAKBank's fee scales with tenor (0.5% → 1.5% → 2%), so the longer plan that looks more affordable monthly is actually the most expensive overall. Compare the total AED cost of the fee, not the monthly instalment size.
3. Early settlement can silently forfeit your 0% rate
DIB advertises zero early settlement charges — worth calling out because it's the exception. Several banks reprice the outstanding balance to the standard retail rate (3.29%–3.85% per month) if you break the plan early or miss a payment. Always ask: "If I pay this off in month 4 of a 6-month plan, is there a penalty?"
4. Conversion isn't automatic — you must request it within a deadline
Most banks require you to call, SMS or use the app to convert the purchase into an EPP within a set window — typically before your next statement date, sometimes as tight as 5 days prior. If you swipe and forget to convert, the full amount starts accruing interest at the standard rate from day one.
5. A blocked or overdue card can forfeit the plan retroactively
DIB's terms state that if your card is overdue, blocked or suspended for any reason, the 0% offer "shall stand forfeited." An unrelated late payment on another purchase can jeopardise your jewellery instalment plan. Keep the card in good standing for the full tenor.
6. Merchant category coding affects cashback eligibility
Cashback cards routinely code jewellery purchases under "retail" rather than a rewarded category — so the "up to 5% cashback" headline rate frequently doesn't apply to gold purchases. Always check the actual statement category, not the marketing page.
If You're Paying in Full: Best Cashback Option
If you're clearing the balance immediately, a flat-rate cashback card avoids all EPP complexity. The Mashreq Cashback Credit Card is free-for-life with no salary transfer requirement. Treat any cashback on a gold purchase as a marginal bonus — most cards don't specifically reward jewellery spend at the highest tier.
The FAB Gold Credit Card provides 1% cashback on gold purchases worldwide — modest but explicit and reliable.
For jewellery-specific rewards, the RAKBank Kalyan Jewellers Credit Card Goldback programme is the strongest dedicated option in the UAE market.
Before You Swipe — Check the Live Rate First
The credit card choice affects how you pay, but the gold content price is identical across all licensed UAE retailers — set daily by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group. Check the live rate before visiting any store so you know the exact metal value of what you're buying.
